Changhong Electric, Taiwan company to launch LCD module

BEIJING, Jun 22, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- AUO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Changhong Electric (600839.HK), a major household electric appliance maker in China's mainland, has announced that it will cooperate with BriView Electronics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of renowned Taiwan LCD manufacturer AU Optronics Corp., in establishing a joint venture for production of LCD TV modules in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, southwest China.
The cooperation was considered as an important move taken by Changhong Electric in the field of plat-panel TV, after its investment in new plasma displays and modules.

Of the initial investment and registered capital of the joint venture, amounting to 100 million yuan, Changhong holds 49 percent, while BriView Electronics owns 51 percent.

The joint venture will mainly conduct such business as research, development, manufacture and maintenance of LCD displays, LCD TVs, and the derivative products and parts.

The LCD module joint venture plans to construct four assembly/production lines for glass substrate and backlight module with an annual capacity of 3.6 million pieces. Enditem
