The Gerresheimer Group has opened a new plant for the production of pharmaceutical glass packaging in China.
The high-tech facility, located in Danyang in the Jiangsu Province specialises in the manufacture of high-quality pharmaceutical vials and cartridges for injection systems for supply to the local and international pharma and life science industries.
Chief Executive Officer of Gerresheimer, Axel Herberg, has described the investment as an important strategic platform for further business expansion in Asia. The company now operates seven production facilities in China for specific glass and plastic products.
The Danyang plant is owned by Chinese subsidiary Gerresheimer Shuangfeng, which the group acquired in 2006 and now has production sites in three locations. A key focus for the plant is the rapidly growing Asian pharmaceutical market, in which there is increasing demand for high-quality packaging.
Gerresheimer Shuangfeng also has a second manufacturing facility in Danyang, which exclusively produces pharmaceutical vials.
