Aug. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp, the world's third-largest liquid crystal display maker by revenue, along with its affiliated TV assembly plant BriView Technology Corp, plans to build a new LCD TV panel module plant in North China, aiming to become the largest TV panel supplier in mainland China, sources reported.
Although some sources have suggested that the new plant will help AUO capture more orders from Haier Group, AUO Vice President Paul Peng declined to comment on this aspect of the company's expansion.
It is estimated that BriView Technology will ship 1 million LCD TVs this year, while the volume is likely to exceed 2 million units in 2010.
The mainland LCD TV market grew by 65% in the first half of this year compared with the corresponding period in 2008. Around 24 million LCD TVs are expected to be sold in the mainland market this year.
AUO currently has three LCD TV panel module plants in mainland China, one each in Suzhou, Xiamen and Sichuan Province.
