FLACHGLAS Wernberg Taking Over Pilkington Switzerland

The agreement for the takeover of the Swiss subsidiaries of Pilkington Germany by FLACHGLAS Wernberg, the glass refiner located in the Bavarian region of Upper Palatinate, was signed on July 17, 2009.

Since 2006, Pilkington has been forming part of the NSG Group, global leader in the production of glass for the construction and automotive industry. Pilkington Switzerland means the company headquarters in Wikon and also the three production sites in Wikon, Thun and Münchenbuchsee.
With the takeover of Pilkington Switzerland, FLACHGLAS Wernberg intends to continue expanding. The new group of companies is expected to generate an annual turnover of approx. 160 million euro. "The takeover of the sites provides us good chances to continue strengthening our market position in Europe", as Holger Rexhausen, Chief Technology Officer, states.
After the corporate merger, a total of 1,000 employees will be operating in the group. „As compared to international standards, in Switzerland the situation of this business remains firm. Pilkington Switzerland is economically well-placed", as Dr. Frank, Commercial Director of FLACHGLAS Wernberg, states.
FLACHGLAS Wernberg is one of the leading glass refiners in Europe. The medium-sized company produces functional glass and special glazing for buildings and vehicles as well as for yachts.
