Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (中華映管), the nation’s third-largest flat-panel maker, Sales of LCD monitors and TVs at the Taipei Computer Application Show 2009 (TCAS 2009) dropped around 20% compared those seen a year ago, causing LCD product vendors to become more conservative about demand in the second half of 2009, according to vendors at the show.
Chimei's sales at the five-day TCAS 2009 fell short of its goal and were flat compared to TCAS 2008, the company said, nothing that Chimei sold 600 LCD TVs and 1,500 LCD monitors at TCAS 2009 with revenues totaling NT$25 million (US$764,500).
For monitors, Chimei said larger-size models were more popular, with 22-inch widescreen models accounting for 50% of its total sales at the show, 30% for 24-inch models, and 20% for 19-inch widescreen models. Last year 19-inch widescreen and 22-inch widescreen models accounted for 50% each, it said.
Samsung Taiwan indicated that amid increasing panel prices, Samsung will increase its monitor prices in August. The prices for its 18.5-inch and 22-inch models will increase by NT$150-200, and by NT$500-600 respectively.
