Auburn Hills, MI (July 14, 2009) – Guardian Industries has expanded its one-of-a-kind product by offering its patented ShowerGuard technology in a new acid-etched substrate manufactured by Guardian called ShowerGuard SatinDeco. This new product combines the durability and low maintenance of ShowerGuard with the distinctive beauty of a soft diffused privacy glass.
“Residential and commercial customers in North America are adopting the European design trend of using decorative glass to add privacy and elegance to homes and hotels,” said Scott Thomsen, vice president and chief technology officer for Guardian Industries. “People are drawn to the timeless, classic look that translucent glass offers. With ShowerGuard SatinDeco, customers add beauty to their bathrooms as well as an investment that provides long-term value.”
Guardian’s ShowerGuard is the first and only shower glass with protection that never needs to be reapplied. The surface of the glass is sealed through a patented ion-beam process during manufacturing, so it resists the corrosion and discoloration caused by constant exposure to heat, humidity, hard water, soaps and harsh cleaners. It is also eco-friendly, because it requires less cleaning materials and maintains its original like-new appearance for years.
Unlike spray-on or wipe-on treatments that eventually wear off, the protection provided by Guardian ShowerGuard glass is part of the glass itself, so it never needs to be reapplied.
Advancements in science and innovation through Guardian’s Science & Technology Center enabled the company to combine ShowerGuard with SatinDeco, a beautiful, distinctive privacy glass that is manufactured using the acid-etching process. In this process, acid is applied to the glass surface, actually dissolving part of the glass. The result is a smooth, flat surface that disperses light and transforms transparent float glass into translucent glass.
SatinDeco is available in 10mm and 12mm on Guardian clear float glass and backed by Guardian’s limited 10-year Consumer Warranty.
ShowerGuard is also offered in clear and UltraWhite. It is available through shower enclosure and glass dealers throughout the United States. Local dealers and more information can be found at
ShowerGuard and SatinDeco are registered trademarks and UltraWhite is a trademark of Guardian Industries Corp.
