People Magazine Features Skywalk As A "World's Best Glass Attraction"

It’s hardly the place you’d expect to be reading about Saint-Gobain products, but the latest issue of one of the widest-read weekly magazines in North America features a photograph and write-up of one of Saint-Gobain’s most noteworthy projects of the last decade. The August 31st issue of People magazine lists the Grand Canyon Skywalk - made almost entirely of Saint-Gobain glass - as one of its top glass attractions for American travelers.

“The use of glass in architectural construction can certainly help create an eye-catching display, and in addition to making a unique building or structure to view, in some cases the glass can even be the main feature that brings people in to see it,” says People in its feature article. Structures like the Skywalk “…‘offer a transparent thrill.’”

The Skywalk’s U-shaped observation platform features all-glass flooring that's suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River. The two-inch thick glass decking, approximately 10 feet wide and 70 feet deep, was made of a multilayer glass construction which uses four layers of Saint-Gobain Diamant® glass. The other two attractions on People’s list: the recently completed Skydeck Ledge in Chicago, and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, a 500-foot-long pedestrian bridge linking downtown Tacoma, Washington, to the city's waterfront.
