28 – 31 October 2009: the dates of Vitrum have never been watched with as much anticipation and even apprehension as they are this year. Everything is ready to welcome exhibitors and visitors in the best possible manner. The many innovations that will pique the interest of participants have already been determined, down to the last detail, and the organizational machinery is working around the clock. The commitment is huge, because the utmost attention of everyone who wants to understand which way the winds of the future are blowing is focused on Vitrum 2009.

Vitrum 2009 is ready to open its doors. Hopes are high; the storm seems to be over; eyes are focused on the future with a sense of renewed enthusiasm. And, there’s lively curiosity over the new frontiers offered by the green economy and energy conservation.

Approximately 500 exhibitors are participating in the Flat Glass and Hollow Glass sectors and will bring with them, as they do every year, the best of their own production, those items that have given Made in Italy its reputation for quality, and have taught the world about the advanced points of technological know-how that combines excellent performance with the need to optimize output and production costs. A comparison among various technological solutions will make it possible to make an up-close assessment of the degree to which constant evolution has maintained unaltered to this day the distances between the best machines of the latest generation and the less recent ones, or the imitations, especially in terms of processing precision, reliability, and reduced down time for maintenance. Many innovations have been hinted at, but are being kept strictly secret until the moment they’re unveiled.

The new Vitrum Energy section will be a reference point for all the companies that are measuring themselves against the topics of reduced energy consumption and taking advantage of renewable energy sources. Both photovoltaic and solar heat are well-known fields to the top companies exhibiting at Vitrum, with significant examples of their particular commitment to the development of technologies that make it possible to overcome the remaining obstacles in terms of costs and productivity. These topics, along with the increasingly hot subject of warm edge will be debated during the “Vetro e Risparmio energetico” (Glass and Energy Savings) conference to be held on Thursday, October 29th, the second day of the show, scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., according to the program shown below.

Vitrum Lab, presenting the “Maestri Muranesi” Glass Blowing Masters of Murano and the creative workshop for children from local elementary schools, is supported by two of Milan’s most important institutions: the Lombardy Region and the Province of Milan, two especially significant acknowledgements that offer tangible testimony of the strong perception of the value of the promotion of culture and the arts and trades that have accompanied the history of glass. Workshop organizers, the Associazione Vetroricerca Glas&Modern of Bolzano and Gimav, will welcome all interested visitors at stand 19A in Pavilion 15. Not exclusively for industry professionals; the exhibit is open to all.
