Marshall plant closes

Post Time:Nov 16,2009Classify:Company NewsView:373

A Marshall glass company shuttered its plant today.

The AGC Flat Glass North America closure affects all 28 employees. Employees have been offered a “very good severance package,” Business Manager Carl Price said.

The Japanese-owned company makes insulated glass for residential homes. The glass is shipped to framing companies and then sold to home owners.

Price said there have not been enough orders for new glass in Michigan to keep the plant afloat.

This year’s tax incentives to upgrade home heating and insulation bumped up sales for a short time, but it was not enough to save the plant, Price said.

AGC Flat Glass has been making insulated glass in Marshall since 2001.
