Clear/Tempered/Coating Reflective//Laminated/Low-E Insulated Glass for Buildings

INSULATED GLASS

By combining Low-E coatings, standard and high performance tinted glass, reflective coatings, silk-screened patterns, laminated glass products and more, a wide variety of insulating glass configurations are available to satisfy a wide range of performance and aesthetic requirements. IG units can be fabricated to meet state energy and safety codes, sound control and seismic requirements, impact, bullet, hurricane and blast resistance requirements. IG units can be designed to reduce heat loss and solar heat gain entering the building, with a minimal reduction of visible light transmittance.

Insulating glass units are fabricated according to project specifications. IG units can be constructed using a large variety of glass products to achieve desired aesthetics, meet design criteria, safety codes and/or to improve solar control and thermal performance.

Glass options include clear, low iron, Low-E's, standard or high performance (spectrally selective) tints, reflective, silk-screened, spandrel, laminated, decorative and wired glass. The glass lites of an IG unit can be annealed, heat-strengthened, tempered or laminated.

APPLICATIONS

Insulating Glass Units (IGU) are used in essentially all exterior building applications, including vertical glazing, sloped glazing, overhead glazing and skylights, and also in both vision and spandrel (nonvision) areas. Depending on the glass type used, IG units can be designed for: light and solar control, sound control, ultraviolet screening (to reduce fading), hurricane, earthquake and blast resistance, security, bullet resistance, and decorative applications.

Control the heat, stay comfortable

Insulating Glass Units (IGU) improve the thermal performance of glazing by providing a thermal break 鈥?two lites of glass separated by a sealed air space. These key properties enable insulating glass to meet two very different requirements鈥攌eeping heat in during winter and keeping heat out during summer.

Guardian provides this product through our fabricating facilities in the United States and Canada.

Characteristics

Saves on heating and cooling by reducing air-to-air heat transfer.

Increases personal comfort and aids in energy conservation.

 Reduces sound transmission.

Increases strength to withstand wind loads.

Applications

Suitable for commercial and residential glazing. In dual-seal insulating glass units the primary seal is polyisobutylene (butyl). The secondary seal is polysulfide or silicone.

For all structural glazing applications a secondary seal of silicone must be specified.

Availability

Polysulfide and silicone are available for conventional glazing. Only silicone is available for structural glazing.

Combinations vary and may use clear, tinted, ceramic decorated or high-performance glass in annealed, heat-strengthened or laminated form. Low-E is available on the #2 or #3 surface of an insulating glass unit.

Standard thicknesses range from 11 mm (7/16") to 25 mm (1") for commercial and residential use and a maximum thickness of 33 mm (1-5/16") in sloped-glazing applications. Other glass thicknesses may be available on request.

Aluminum spacers are bent or mechanically joined at the corners.
