The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance discussed future association activities in vacuum glazing during the Emerging Technology & Innovation Committee meeting at the organization's Annual General Meeting in Tempe, Ariz., Jan. 31 to Feb. 4. The group brainstormed potential activities for IGMA in terms of vacuum insulating glass, from creating a VIG educational document to developing a VIG certification program.
"[Vacuum glazing] is headed our way, and is already here in some instances," said David Cooper, advanced IG program leader, Guardian Industries, and head of the IGMA Vacuum Insulating Glass Task Group. "There are a lot of questions that need to be answered in terms of VIG, and this is the group to do it."
The group decided to have the task group begin work on a VIG white paper that would act as an educational resource for the industry to "develop a knowledge of what [VIG] is and how it works," Cooper said. "It will be an educational industry piece so people get an understanding of VIG and what factors are important to consider when dealing with VIG."
