Sustainability, sealants and vinyl at AAMA summer conference

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association, Schaumburg, Ill., kicked off its National Summer Conference June 5 in Minneapolis. The event, with about 220 registered attendees, continues through June 8.

The Green and Sustainability Specification Development Task Group met on June 6 to continue development of the Green Product Certification Program. The task group reviewed the results and addressed comments of the most recent ballotregarding the program's criteria for residential and light commercial class products. The Sealants for Installation Task Group also met on June 6. During the meeting, Norma Searle, a consultant and physical chemist who was a senior research chemist and group leader at American Cyanamid Co., presented "Accelerated Weathering Tests for Sealants." Searle focused on prime weathering factors, and the effects of temperature and moisture. Read more about Searle's presentation.

During the Vinyl Material Council meeting on June 6, Kevin Mulvaney of the Vinyl Institute provided an update on the institute's activities, including efforts to promote safer and greener products.
