Jack Farber, president of the National Glass Association, McLean, Va., from 1976 to 1978, passed away March 28 following a long illness. He was 89.
Farber moved to Southern California from Chicago in the early 1940's with his wife Ethel and enlisted in the Army. He served in the Italian campaign in World War II with the 88th Infantry Division. He was wounded in Italy and awarded the Purple Heart.
After the war, he started Admiral Glass in Alhambra, Calif. By the 1970's, he had grown the company to an organization of more than 20 glass shops and three glass distribution locations around the state.
Farber served as NGA president (then the NGDA) from 1976 to 1978. He was instrumental in forming the Auto Glass Committee for Highway Safety and in revitalizing the Southern California chapter of the NGDA.
Farber was preceded in death by his wife Ethel. He is survived by his son Ken, daughters Carol and Laurie, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
