Colonial Glass and Mirror, Brooklyn, N.Y.,will form a business alliance with Goldray Industries, headquartered in Calgary, Canada, according to a Colonial announcement Sept. 5.
Goldray will use Colonial as a local platform to manufacture and market its decorative glass products in the northeastern United States. These products will include ceramic frit imaging, wall cladding and spandrel glass.
Colonial will import Goldray’s manufacturing systems and expertise into its current operations. This will allow Colonial to re-establish its strengths in cutting, tempering and fabricating.
"Colonial and Goldray have already begun to integrate operations and eliminate redundancies in all business operations," says Zachary Weiner, president, Colonial Glass. "This will position both companies to offer the best possible product and service levels at the lowest possible cost."
Colonial is investing $50,000 in a complete plant refurbishment, which includes preventative maintenance on all machinery and repositioning equipment to optimize manufacturing flow, according to the announcement.
"Goldray and Colonial are working to selectively purchase or transfer additional equipment into Colonial’s facility to add decorative glass capability," Weiner says. "We anticipate that this will result in an additional investment of approximately $250,000."
Colonial will upgrade its order processing and accounting systems to Goldray’s proprietary system that developed specifically for the glass industry. This will result in better order tracking, real-time information for customers, and the correct product shipped on time every time, according to the announcement.Colonial officials are planning to hold an open house in mid-November to showcase the company's new capabilities.
