Through their acquisition of the UK-based Technical Glass Company, Goodfellow is now able to supply an enhanced range of MACOR® glass ceramic products as both machinable material (rods, plates, bars and discs) and finished components that are precision-machined to customer specifications.

MACOR delivers the performance of a technical ceramic with the versatility of a high-performance plastic. It is an outstanding engineering material and is machinable with ordinary metalworking tools. MACOR is strong and rigid, an excellent insulator, and has a high maximum use temperature (800°C continuous, 1000°C peak) and low thermal conductivity. Because of these outstanding properties, MACOR is used in a wide range of applications:

  • Electronics/semiconductor industry – precision coil formers, high voltage insulators
  • Laser industry – spacers, reflectors and cavities in laser assemblies
  • High vacuum industry – thermal breaks, coil supports and vacuum feedthroughs
  • Aerospace/space industry – Space Shuttle door and window retaining rings, satellite electrical supports
  • Nuclear industry – fixtures and reference blocks in power generation units

The Technical Glass Company, part of the Goodfellow Group of Companies, is a UK-based supplier of specialist glass and ceramic materials and components for scientific and industrial applications.
