Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI) announced today that Sergio Galindo has been named president of O-I North America and Tim Connors has been named president of O-I Asia Pacific, effective June 1, 2015.
Galindo, currently president of O-I's Asia Pacific region, brings 20 years of experience to his new role and will be responsible for O-I operations in U.S. and Canada.
"Sergio is a strong and knowledgeable leader who understands the importance of balancing revenue optimization and new business development with manufacturing capability and performance," said Andres Lopez, O-I chief operating officer and president of glass containers. "He has done an excellent job enhancing our Asia-Pacific region's capabilities to better face very challenging market conditions, and we are confident he will support and encourage the strong operational focus we are undertaking in our North American region."
Prior to being named president of Asia Pacific in 2012, Galindo served as general manager of O-I Colombia. Under his leadership, that business nearly doubled its earnings from its glass packaging, tableware and flat glass operations in three years. Before assuming his role in Colombia, he served as general manager of O-I Peru for five years.
Connors currently serves as general manager of O-I's Australian operations, which drive the largest portion of O-I's business in the region. As president of O-I Asia Pacific, Connors will be responsible for O-I's business in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and China, as well as the company's joint venture interests in Malaysia and Vietnam. In his 18-year career at O-I, Connors has served in a variety of finance, manufacturing and business strategy roles. Prior to being named general manager of O-I Australia, he was vice president of finance for the Asia Pacific region for three years.
"Tim has proven to be a remarkably flexible and insightful leader," said Lopez. "As a member of the Asia Pacific leadership team for the past four years, he is very familiar with the market dynamics of the region, as well as our operations there. As general manager of O-I Australia, he strengthened the competitive position of our Australian business - particularly the wine and beer segments - through footprint realignment, customer engagement and a focus on total cost. His background and experience in multiple regions make him ideally suited to lead our business in Asia Pacific."
