Polystrand will exhibit a new reinforcement product this week at Composites and Polycon 2009 in Tampa, Fla.
The new product is PET Polystrand, a continuous glass fiber reinforced PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) matrix that delivers performance properties similar to those achieved with thermosetting epoxy resins. According to Polystrand, the product has exceptional impact resistance, a paintable and bondable surface, and improved fire resistance.
PET is a thermoplastic polymer of the polyester family. The resin exists as a transparent or semi-crystalline (opaque and white) material. Examples of products made with PET include beverage containers, fibers for textiles, credit cards and industrial products. PET Polystrand will enable customers to expand their product base and functions.
PET Polystrand tapes will be on display at the company’s booth #429 in Tampa.
Polystrand has also again joined with the AEWC Composites Center at the University of Maine to feature a new application in the Awards for Composites Excellence (ACE) Showcase & Competition. The application – a composite panel for temporary shelters that can be recycled when structure exceeds its expected useful life – gets much of their strength from Polystrand reinforcements.
