Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed on Tuesday that a cooperation agreement has been reached between Iraq’s General Company for Glass and Refractories and Saudi Arabia’s Ajial Company to build a large industrial complex specializing in silica industries in the western Iraqi province of Anbar.

The Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khalid Battal Al-Najm, mentioned in a statement that this project is part of the ministry’s vision to enhance Iraq’s industrial capacity, the state-run news agency (INA) reported.

In addition to being a step toward diversifying revenue streams and advancing local industries through the use of raw resources, this agreement marks a significant turning point in the industrial cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, according to Al-Najm.

The industrial complex will use silica as a main raw material for several upcoming projects, such as sodium silicate, flat glass, bottles and jars, ceramic sanitary ware, floor and wall ceramics, and glass electrical insulators.

As a step toward creating a strong industrial foundation that will help create jobs and improve economic sustainability, this agreement is expected to help increase industrial output and develop the national economy.

It is anticipated that the project would help Iraq’s industrial sector undergo a qualitative change and serve as a solid foundation for the two nations’ mutually beneficial economic growth.
