Saint-Gobain officially opened its new $15-million research and development (R&D) center expansion in Northboro, Mass., today. Pierre-André de Chalendar, Saint-Gobain's worldwide chief executive officer, as well as Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, attended the event.
The company's R&D center employees 330 scientists, researchers and engineers and specializes in research of high-performance materials, as well as renewable energy and technologies to promote energy efficiency in buildings.
The expansion of the R&D center provides an additional 60,000 square feet of laboratory, office and meeting space in a custom-built facility that has been designed to promote innovation and collaboration between research teams. When it is inspected later this year, the completed structure is expected to attain a Gold Rating in the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® program.
The expansion features many of Saint-Gobain's own energy-efficient building products, including the window glass.
