Quinn Glass relaunches bottling arm as demand for bulk wine grows

Quinn Glass has relaunched its specialist bottling division to cope with growing market demand for bulk wine filling services.

The bottling arm will now be known as Cobevco, and is aiming to forge strong links with the Australian and Chilean wine industries in particular. Quinn predicts it will have doubled its output of wine and carbonated beverages by early 2014.

Cobevco will bottle drinks that are bulk imported into the UK and produced domestically, for producers, importers and retailers.

The launch comes on the back of a £500 million investment by the firm in its two manufacturing plants in Cheshire and Northern Ireland. The Cheshire site, which carries out glass manufacture, bottling, bonded storage and distribution, will be home to Cobevco's bottling operation.

The new 21,600m2 facility has five high-speed bottling lines, a GEA processing plant, lab which operates seven-days a week and a panel of tasters. It has capacity for bottling 5 million litres of wine, beer, cider, spirits and soft drinks per week.

Adrian Curry, managing director at Cobevco, said: "As the beverage market becomes increasingly globalised, products need to travel larger distances to get to market, which can be costly. Overheads within the supply chain are also escalating because of rising fuel prices and duty fees.

"As a result, a growing number of producers are utilising bulk importing and bottling at destination as a more efficient and environmentally sound route to market. As a specialist bottling brand, Cobevco will meet this increased industry demand with a highly efficient and responsive combination of facilities and expertise - catering for importers and home producers alike."

Cobevco has set aside a further £3.5 million investment in its Cheshire plant for early 2013, to further improve its capacity.
