LEEDS, Alabama -- Now that the Alabama Environmental Council is once again accepting glass at its recycling center at 2431 2nd Ave. N. Birmingham, the city of Leeds is now able to offer glass recycling to its residents.
Leeds Street and Sanitation Supervisor George Keating said the center, which has been accepting paper, plastic and cardboard, among other items, for little more than a year began accepting glass a few weeks ago.
Leeds takes recycling materials left at its center to the Birmingham center, Keating said.
The Birmingham center in May stopped taking glass after its partner that took the glass away, Calera-based cement company Argos, said it would no longer be able to take glass because of falling demand for cement. In June, the service resumed after the Alabama Environmental Council partnered with Waste Pro.
The Leeds recycling center is at 8475 1st Ave. Leeds.
The center is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturdays 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
