The American Architectural Manufacturers Association issued a response in September on the final Energy Star Draft Specification released by the Environmental Protection Agency in late July, recommending that the EPA take the necessary steps to separate tubular daylighting devices and skylight criteria, according to an Oct. 1 AAMA release. According to AAMA, "Continuing to dismiss the overall benefits of daylighting and the energy savings realized by reducing the need for artificial lighting has created an Energy Star program for skylights and TDDs that leads to prohibitive manufacturing costs while significantly decreasing the advantages of these products."
