The Canadian Auto Workers union ratified an agreement April 21with Kawneer Mfg. in Lethbridge, Alberta,avoidinga strike, according to a same-day CNW report.
CAW Local 99 represents a bargaining unit of 218 workers at KawneerMfg. in Lethbridge; the workers include production and maintenance employees at the Alcoa-owned plant, which operates a press for aluminum extrusion and the production of architectural products, according to the report.
"While there is large disappointment that the company would not offer more, the members are relieved that there is now an agreement in place for the next three years and that a strike has been averted," said CAW National Representative Todd Romanow, in the CNW article.
The workers sought a new collective agreementthat providedincreased remuneration, including pension, wage, shift premium and benefit increases, according to a separate, April 18Alpha Trade Finance report.
